The Mexican-American author Sandra Cisneros has said the most important year of her life was the year she was 11 years old. She likens it to the growth rings of a tree: the years when there is more rain or more favourable growing conditions produce larger, more prominent rings than other years.
If you could take a core sample of your life, what would it look like? Are there wider rings reflecting certain years or seasons? What circumstances in your environment or within you collaborated to make it so? Are there lessons you can learn from that now that would stimulate a new growing period now? If you took another sample in 10 years what would you point to from this time that caused you to grow so rapidly? My hunch is that someone helped you.
