In addition to being the title of a book by Steven Covey, this is a principle “with legs.” Like everything travelling slower than light, the speed of trust is relative. Try to move faster than the speed of trust and the people you seek to lead won’t follow. Move slower than the speed of trust and they will get bored. Either way, you’re on your own.
Like all objects in motion, the speed of trust can be measured with the right instrumentation. If you think you don’t know how to measure it, you can learn.
The value of simultaneously knowing how to cultivate trust and measure how much of it you have is more than tactical. Because we flourish in community, trust makes life qualitatively better.
