Decisions

A friend was reflecting on the feelings of overload and paralysis that come with having to make decisions about things that not so long ago would have happened automatically. Passing someone on a sidewalk. Entering a building. Given our finite capacity for exerting will and making decisions, such attention to minutiae renders larger decisions even more difficult. The decision-making battery is run down.

Is there a way to re-frame as a mindfulness practice some of the automatic-turned-conscious decision making currently required of us?

Maybe it’s splitting hairs. Or maybe a pandemic is an invitation to bring a level of consciousness and intentionality to what we might otherwise be inclined to sleep through.

Maybe this is an opportunity to inquire about our motivations for action, to regroup and recommit at the level of purpose.
