Confidence is statistically verifiable. Evidentiary. Rational. That which we can reasonably predict based on the facts before us.
Hope is somewhat more elusive – or at least potentially so. Hope is what we possess in the face of evidence that provides no grounds for confidence. Hope is the ember that continues to burn in the depths of the soul when the fires of confidence have been well and truly doused.
